SKI VILLAGE

It's time to bring snow sports back to the hills of Sheffield...

Once the largest artificial ski resort in Europe, our Ski Village was the ultimate adrenaline rush.

Sheffield has a world-class history in snow sports

Sheffield Ski Village once ignited a generation’s passion for outdoor and mountain sports. Now, it’s time to rekindle that spirit with a modern, eco-friendly ski slope that not only revitalises local recreation but also inspires community-driven innovation.

By bringing back these adrenaline-fuelled activities, we can encourage young people to connect with the outdoors, foster a love for sustainable sport, and champion Sheffield’s reputation as a hub for adventure. Are you ready for a new ski slope in the Steel City? Get involved and help us bring it home—for the next generation and beyond.

Why do it? And is it even viable?

Reviving Sheffield Ski Village isn’t just about skiing—it’s about regenerating the land for both people and wildlife. The natural hillside already suits year-round synthetic slopes, minimising land reshaping while opening up exciting new habitat possibilities. Through careful rewilding, we can plant native species, create thriving biodiversity corridors, and restore ecosystems alongside the main attraction.

With community footpaths and bike trails already in place, visitors can easily explore not only the slopes but also rejuvenated green spaces teeming with local flora and fauna. This aligns perfectly with Sheffield’s outdoor spirit—enhancing recreation while fostering a healthier environment.

By uniting sport with environmental stewardship, Sheffield Ski Village becomes more than a leisure spot: it becomes a sustainable, community-focused hub that nurtures both the thrill of adventure and the vibrancy of nature.

The wider benefits

Sheffield Ski Village was more than just a hub for outdoor enthusiasts—it supported a network of local businesses that thrived alongside it, even when the area was largely industrial and overlooked.

Now, with a bustling Kelham Island next door, a revived ski village could draw visitors from near and far, boosting local establishments and creating a ripple effect throughout the community.

By positioning the ski village as part of Sheffield’s larger tourism landscape, we can create shared promotional opportunities, cross-events, and combined activity passes that highlight both the city’s industrial heritage and its modern, thriving leisure scene.

The result is a sustainable, year-round destination that not only attracts visitors but encourages them to explore all that Sheffield has to offer.

There has never been a better or more relevant time

Reviving Sheffield Ski Village isn’t just a great idea—it’s entirely doable. The natural hillside is already perfectly contoured for skiing, saving time and costs. By leveraging modern synthetic slope technology, the Village could run 365 days a year, delivering consistent revenue and long-term financial stability.

Moreover, the surrounding network of bike trails and footpaths makes it an easily accessible destination for locals and visitors alike—no extensive new infrastructure required. This location, combined with Sheffield’s thriving outdoor culture, forms the ideal setting to restore a cherished landmark and energise the community.

With careful planning and a clear vision, this project promises more than recreation: it offers a sustainable, community-driven hub that’s ready to breathe new life into an iconic part of the city.

If Sheffield Ski Village were to be reinstated as an outdoor ski slope, it could work hand-in-hand with the vibrant ecosystem

We believe well-planned developments and nature can co-exist harmoniously. Here’s how...

Protecting Habitats

Preserving existing greenery and creating wildlife corridors would allow species to thrive alongside well-managed new facilities.

Sustainable Design

Landscaping with native plants would enhance biodiversity while maintaining the area’s natural beauty

Innovative Green Features

Green roofs, rain gardens, and rewilded areas could be seamlessly integrated into the development.

Dedicated Conservation Areas

Spaces for nesting birds, hibernating mammals, and pollinators would ensure wildlife remains a priority.

Community Engagement

Visitors could learn about local wildlife through educational programmes, inspiring them to protect their environment.

Sheffield Ski Village isn’t just about recreation; it’s a chance to create a space where nature and people flourish side by side.
